The Resurrection was (and is) a joyous occasion, but for a resurrection, there had to be a crucifixion. This item depicts Jesus carrying the cross to Golgotha, where He was crucified between two thieves.
I cut the two figures from layers of 1/4 inch thick Sapele, a dark brown wood in the mahogany family. The depiction is 5 3/4 inches tall on top of a base that is 1/2 inch thick, and 5 7/8 in diameter. The base two layers of the base were cut from red oak, and the entire display received several coats of spray polyurethane.
